Our History
Redeemer Lutheran Church began as a mission congregation in downtown Greenville in May 1966 and purchased 1.3 acres of land in December that same year after receiving its Charter. 100+ adult members and their children participated in ground-breaking ceremonies in February, 1967 and the dedication of its new building in August, 1968. The new congregation was served by several part-time pastors until it called its first full-time pastor in December, 1969 and seven additional full-time pastors during the past 52 years.
Redeemer Lutheran has celebrated many significant milestones and faced many challenges throughout its history including the destruction of its fellowship hall by a tornado in 2019 and COVID-19. While those events affected worship attendance and the operation of its programs and ministries the positive attitude and faith of its membership continues to remain strong, trusting as Romans 8 states, that: “...nothing in or of this world is capable of separating us from the love of Christ Jesus our Lord - including affliction, distress, things present or things to come.”
